Prison Break is a show that follows a man, Michael Scofied, as he tries to break his brother out of prison.  His brother was wrongly convicted of a murder and was on death row.  The show progresses, and becomes more than just one prison break.

Michael falls in love with the prison doctor, Sara.  While their love story is not the main plot, but makes the show softer in a way.  The ending of the show focuses on how their love story comes to a tragic end.  Michael ends up dying, and leaves many questions.

The prequel explains why Michael dies, and includes a video of him explaining himself.  His final day was spent breaking Sara out of prison and not making it out himself.  I believe this is a good and justified ending, by having him die doing what he is best at.
